Managing domestic strife on campus happens more frequently than one would expect.

1) If partners must separate immediately for serious reasons, one of them is offered a temporary room on campus. (Rooms that otherwise are used for visiting family members.)

2) Basic mental health interventions are offered such as marital therapy, psychological and health evaluations, group supports, and the like if desired by the partners.

3) Safety issues are evaluated such as violence/self harm or presence of weapons.

4) Contracts must be renegotiated for each partner regarding life care contracts, housing from one to two units. Typically each partner gets 50% of entry fee. Everything must be renegotiated individually as one/both may wish to move off campus, etc. People may go from villa to apartment, etc.

This is approximately as it is managed in one facility on a case by case basis.

An easy way to find out is to ask your social worker on staff how these matters are managed. These are extremely complex problems that involve every facet of a person's life (interpersonal, financial, family, and more).

Our contract has a whole section on what happens if a person marries, divorces, wants to move or change living accommodations, and much more. I chuckled when I read it as it included extra persons moving in without telling management and other contractual issues related to human relationships.

Where I live a person married a 90 yo man who moved in. Other couples have two apartments, some adjacent, and others across campus. One person divorced, and after the settlement, moved in alone. Basic life continues as it does everywhere.

Has there ever been a situation where the resident couple finds they can no longer live together? Not based on increasing disability but maybe by accentuation of some earlier personality "differences"? Can the CCRC accommodate them splitting?
