HEALTH COMMITTEE CHARTER

The Committee consists of all interested residents, the Associate Executive Director of Health Services, the Executive Director of Hospice/Palliative Care, and the Director of Social Work.

The Health Committee of the Resident Council partners with the health leadership team of GHBC to ensure that resident concerns are considered in decision-making to provide exemplary health care to residents.

Some of the concrete assistance the committee provides includes:

  • To listen and to respond to the questions and concerns of all residents, inclusive of Assisted Living, Memory Care Unit, and Residential Living, but especially those residents in the Health Care Center (HCC) who may have more limited opportunities to communicate concerns regarding health care service at GHBC. To inform the health leadership team members of these concerns and ensure follow-through.
  • To work with the Administration to prepare an annual report to explain the scope of health services for residents and to assist with any health fairs or health promotions offered to residents.
  • To bring health information pertinent to seniors available in the larger community to the attention of residents and to the health leadership team.
  • With the Health Committee chairperson as its spokesperson, the Committee may make recommendations deemed appropriate for future Council participation in health matters, or may communicate directly with management, as appropriate.

The mission statement of our Health and Wellness Committee (Emerald Heights, Redmond, WA) regrettably doesn't include the resident/administration cooperation specified in the Goodwin House statement, though it does happen to a limited degree.

The Health and Wellness Committee is concerned with the physical, spiritual and emotional life of Emerald Heights residents. It accomplishes this by fostering greater understanding of the continuum of health services provided at Emerald Heights and assists with the identification of community health and wellness through community education, communication, advocacy and emergency response issues. It also forms liaisons with other Residents Association Committees.
