Our Green Team is looking into this proposal to reduce energy consumption immediately:
Residential Energy Efficiency via Window Treatment Management
I would like to propose the implementation of a Winter Thermal Management Protocol to
reduce heating costs and improve occupant comfort. Research from the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) indicates that windows are responsible for approximately
30% of a home's heating energy loss. By simply closing window coverings at night, we
can significantly mitigate this loss.
The Strategy: This "no-cost" initiative focuses on manual thermal regulation:
Nighttime Insulation: Closing all curtains, shades, and blinds at sunset to create
an insulating air barrier that traps heat inside.
Selective Daytime Use: Keeping shades closed on cloudy days or on north-
facing windows to minimize "cold-soak" from the glass.
Expected Impact: According to the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) and
the DOE, closing window treatments can reduce heat loss by 10% to 25%. In a
standard residential setting, this typically translates to a 5%–12% reduction in annual
heating bills, depending on the thickness of the material and the seal of the covering
against the window frame.
