Retirees Find Purpose in Yinchuan’s Neighborhood Support Network
A China Daily report profiles older residents in Yinchuan who have made volunteering part of retirement. Chen Jinfeng visits older neighbors with reminders about health appointments and helps people over 80 navigate smartphone-based services. The neighborhood has about 19,000 households and more than 3,000 residents age 60 and older; it also prints a handbook with bus routes, public-service locations, and emergency contacts.
Other resident-led efforts include a mutual-support group for people with cancer that grew from three members to more than 60, a safety-patrol team made up largely of military veterans, and regular visits to older adults living alone. The story shows how practical, resident-led help can complement formal services while giving volunteers a meaningful role.
