Take Out Dining
Author Last Post

At Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads we also are able to place our to-go orders (to pick up or to have delivered at extra cost) on our resident website. We can order from any venue and place our order early to be available during operating hours. This is just one of the services available on our resident-designed, resident-run, resident-financed website. We can also submit work orders, make salon appointments, order transportation, reserve guest rooms, make suggestions, and send comments and feedback directly to department team members.

I live at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads in Virginia. We have a very flexible take out policy with many ways to place an order. We have three dining venues. We can either order on line any time any of the restaurant's are open and request a time to receive. We can go to the restaurant and place an order when that restaurant is open. The preference of staff is to order ahead so it does not interfere with service to seated customer's. They do make every effort to accommodate the needs of all diners.

Hello Roberta,

I live at Greenspring (in Northern VA).

We have 7 different dining venues across 3 clubhouses. Two are open for breakfast (except on Sunday), Three are open for lunch and 5 are open for dinner.

The breakfast venues offer walk-up take-out or eat-in service, but no preordering. One lunch venue allows pre-ordering, with a specified pick-up time within a 75 minute period. As far as dinner goes, one venue offers walk-up take-out or dine-in, another offers dine-in only, no reservations first-come, first served. The third offers dine-in only, with both reservations and walk-up. The other two offer dine-in and take-out, with take-out order forms available to pre-order the evening before.

All the take-out locations offer the full menu that that dining room offers, but each venue has it's own menu with choices (starters, entree, sides and desert) changing each week, so if you're willing to walk a bit, you can get quite a variety in menu choices. Delivery is also an option, but each dining venue restricts delivery to the 4 apartment buildings that are adjacent to the clubhouse where that venue is located.

Hope this is helpful,

Phil Marzec

I posted this on another forum. It may be relevant to your question. My CCRC in AZ has recently completed a multimillion dollar renovation of our dining room and cafe, hired a new Executive Chef and revamped our menus. Naturally management and our dining committee would like to see residents enjoy the new venues. However, habits developed during Covid are proving hard to break with many residents preferring takeout. Added to that we have a dress code in the dining room (jackets for men suggested not required) that some object to.

We do not allow food to be taken from either of the dining venues unless it is purchased a la carte so the "tin foil over china" problem alluded to does not occur here. Some ladies do slip Tupperware containers into their purses as an, illegal, alternative.

All our takeout containers are lite weight plastic (no utensils) and can be recycled after home washing (we have separate trash and recycling bins).

There has been discussion of adding a surcharge to cover the cost of the containers, but so far no will to do so.

I'll be interested in following this topic to see if there are ideas that we could borrow and consider.

Hi Roberta,

I live at CCRC Medford Leas in Medford Nee Jersey. I get takeout most of the time with no problems. We have one reservation-required restaurant plus one cafeteria that is open for 3 meals each day, allows guests, and allows takeout from the regular menu. They do not have eco-friendly containers. Medford Leasing makes takeout easy for residents. In addition to takeout we can get things from the market from 7:30am-6:30pm.

Hi Everyone,

I posted this a while ago but I did not have it in the correct place so thought I would try it again and hopefully get more replies.

I have seen several replies in the dining thread about an increase in take out/to-go meals. I am a person who does prefer take-out most of the time. For those of you who do get take-out meals, can you tell me if your CCRC lets you order any item off of any menu at your facility? If you have multiple restaurants, can you get take-out meals from all of your restaurants? Are the hours limited for getting take-out (for instance take out for lunch pick-up at 11:30 AM and take out for dinner pick-up 4-4:30 PM) or can you get take out at different times of the day at different restaurants? Do you have any restaurants that are open all day?

Our facility is somewhat limited with how they handle take-out orders. We cannot order from all of our 3 restaurants, only from one restaurant and the selection is limited. We do have set times for the pick-up? I look forward to hearing from other facilities about how take-out orders are accommodated.

I am hoping to improve our take out options here so your replies will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Roberta
